Among the people I follow, the reaction to Boris Nemtsov’s murder a short distance from the Kremlin is surprisingly uniform:

Russian President Vladimir Putin probably didn’t order the murder, but the circumstances he has set up, the animosity toward anyone who doesn’t back his war in Ukraine 100%, made it easy for someone to do it. The investigation that Putin has said he’ll take charge of will not be definitive in finding a killer; someone may be named, but the blame goes beyond that person.

Here is video that shows something quite different from the way the murder has been reported. It seems to be a truck, reported in some places as a snowplow, that brings the gunman to the scene.

Jamie Kenney looks at what might be indicated by various ways of placing blame.

Update: Views from three Russian bloggers.

I hope to have a post tomorrow on historical context.
